AEO & GEO Audit Methodology

See how AEO & GEO Insights evaluates answer structure, entities, evidence, schema, crawlability and AI-search readiness using deterministic checks and semantic review.

How the AEO & GEO audit works

AEO & GEO Insights is designed as a diagnostic system rather than a promise of search-engine or AI-engine rankings. The audit separates observable page signals from semantic judgments so that recommendations remain explainable.

1. Crawl and document inspection

The first stage checks whether the supplied URL is publicly reachable and reviews the document structure that a crawler can observe. This includes redirects, canonical hints, robots directives, headings, semantic sections, links, structured data, authorship and visible evidence. A page that cannot be crawled or indexed cannot reliably compete for search visibility, regardless of how polished the copy may be.

2. Answer Engine Optimization signals

AEO checks focus on whether a page exposes its subject and answers clearly. The audit looks for descriptive headings, concise answer passages, question-and-answer patterns, definitions, lists, tables and other structures that let an answer engine isolate useful information without reconstructing the entire document.

3. Generative Engine Optimization signals

GEO checks focus on the clarity and reusability of information. Strong pages make entities unambiguous, identify authors or publishers, cite sources where appropriate, use facts and dates carefully, expose useful structured data and contain passages that remain meaningful when retrieved out of context.

4. Technical evidence

Technical SEO remains a shared foundation. The audit checks common discoverability signals such as HTTPS, indexability, canonical URLs, robots behavior, schema markup and sitemap availability. These signals do not create rankings on their own, but mistakes can prevent otherwise useful content from being crawled, interpreted or consolidated correctly.

5. Optional semantic AI review

When an AI provider is configured, the tool can add a semantic review for dimensions that are difficult to score with deterministic rules alone, including answerability, extractability, information gain, entity clarity and citation-worthiness. AI output is treated as an additional diagnostic layer rather than ground truth.

How to interpret a score

A high score means the audited page exposes more of the signals the methodology is designed to detect. It does not prove that a particular search engine or generative engine will select, cite or rank that page for a specific query. Real visibility must be measured with Search Console data, analytics, backlinks, query-level rank tracking and repeated testing in relevant AI/search systems.

Why the methodology is intentionally explainable

Every useful diagnostic should lead to an action. For that reason, AEO & GEO Insights favors checks that can produce evidence and a concrete fix: add a missing direct answer, clarify an entity, cite a primary source, improve a heading, fix a noindex directive or repair invalid structured data. This makes the report useful even when the final ranking algorithm of a search platform is not public.
